Peru imports U.S. live dairy cattle

For the first time in thirty years, Peru has imported live cattle from the U.S.

The USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service says ten Brown Swiss heifers from Wisconsin were sent to a single buyer in Peru and will be used for genetic improvement of Peruvian herds through embryo transplant.   The purchase was completed under the U.S. Peru Trade Promotion Agreement and has triggered interest from other farmers and the Peruvian government.

The USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service says the cattle arrived in Lima, Peru January 31st.
