AUC Chairperson, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda Discuss Africa’s Digital Future, Regional Security, and AU Reforms

Addis Ababa, April 4, 2025 (ENA)— The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Mahmoud Ali Youssouf conferred with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda in Kigali today, expressing gratitude for Rwanda’s leadership in Africa’s digital transformation.

The Chairperson commended Rwanda for hosting the Global AI Summit on Africa and its pioneering efforts in innovation and technology, According to the African Union.

Their discussions also covered Rwanda’s key role in the AU, including contributions to governance, regional security, and conflict resolution. The Chairperson acknowledged and praised Rwanda’s commitment to AU reforms.


On regional security, the Chairperson reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to supporting peace efforts in the Great Lakes region, particularly in the DRC within the framework of the Luanda and Nairobi processes and working in collaboration with the East African Community and the Southern Africa Development Community.

The leaders also discussed the urgent need for sustainable funding for African-led peace operations, including the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).


According AU social media page, the meeting underscored the importance of strengthening the African Peace and Security Architecture to enhance the continent’s ability to prevent and respond to conflicts effectively, and ensuring the architecture remains fit for purpose in addressing Africa’s security challenges.
