New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday had a telephonic conversation with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni and thanked her for invite to G7 Summit in June. The G7 Summit will be held in Puglia in Italy, from June 13-15.

During the phone call, the two leaders also reaffirmed commitment to further strengthen strategic partnership. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Modi also extended his greetings to his Italian counterpart and the people of Italy on the occasion of 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The leaders discussed taking forward the important outcomes from India’s G20 presidency, especially that support the global south, at the G7 Summit under Italy’s presidency. The G20 Summit is held annually under the leadership of a rotating presidency. In September last year, India hosted the G20 Summit which was attended by several prominent global leaders, including Meloni, US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The G20 or Group of 20 is a forum of the world’s 19 major developed and developing economies, comprising Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU). The member countries represent around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.
