Gas prices up 7 cents a gallon in Massachusetts

BOSTON — A combination of increased demand and lower oil inventories has driven up the cost of a gallon of gasoline in Massachusetts by 7 cents in the past week.

AAA Northeast reports Monday that its weekly price survey found self-serve regular selling for an average of $2.67 per gallon.

That's still 9 cents lower than the national per-gallon average, but 35 cents higher than the Massachusetts price a year ago.

AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $2.53 and as high as $2.99 per gallon.

An organization spokeswoman says if the current trend of higher demand and declining supply continues, drivers are likely to see even higher prices at the pump.
